you can't surf the Internet. |

|
Q. |
Why do I need to log out? |
| |
A
lot of Internet applications that are self-running use
huge amount of Bandwidth. In case you do not Log out
of these applications they would Keep on running and
depleting your account balance. We would request you
to keep your login page open/minimized throughout your
Internet session so that you remember to log out.
|
Q. |
I
forgot to log out ? |
| |
Spectra
Smart logs out any user in case the surfing activity
is in active or idle for more than five minutes, but
there might still be some activity that is going on
when you are actually not surfing eg. the self running
applications like messenger, bonzi buddy etc. and hence
the Account would be considered active at that time
and automatic log out/time out will not happen. To avoid
such situations we would request you to keep your login
page open/minimized throughout your Internet session
so that you remember to Log Out.
|
Q. |
What
is Idle timeout? |
| |
When
there is no internet activity for more than 5 minutes
(default) the intelligent Spectra Smart system automatically
logs you out from your Internet session. This is called
idle time out. You can also set it according to your
requirement also (10 mins, 15 mins etc).
|
Q. |
How
do I set the Idle timeout? |
| |
You
can set the idle time out after you login your Spectra
Smart account .Click on select a transaction -> preferences
-> idle time out and Change the default settings
as per your requirement.
|
Q. |
What
does a 300MB or X Mb pack mean ? |
| |
A
300 MB pack means that in the given validity period
you can surf an amount equivalent to total of 300/X
MB data transfer on the Internet. The data transfer
is an accumulation of both Download and Upload. Hence
in a 300MB pack you can do a maximum of 300MB of Upload
and Download combined.
|
Q. |
When
should I recharge my account? |
| |
You
can recharge your account any time before the validity
period but it is suggested that you recharge your account
before it reaches 15 - 20% of Initial account value
i.e. if you use a 300MB card, you should recharge when
your account has a balance of 45-60MB. This would help
you to maintain a smooth and continuous surfing experience.
|
Q. |
Can
I carry forward the un-used account value? |
| |
Each
pack has validity defined in terms of data transfer,
days & hours. The pack expires on expiry of any
of the validity parameters and any un-used value also
gets expired and is not carried forward. You can carry
this forward by recharging your account before expiry
of the validity parameters. You need to recharge your
account at least once every month or else your account
would be terminated permanently. In case you are going
on long vacation etc, then on case-to-case basis we
can consider a one months grace without any recharge
(active account) in a year. This needs to be communicated
to the local service provider in written to get a temporary
suspension.
|
Q. |
If
I recharge your account when it had some balance, what
would be the expiry date? |
| |
On
recharge your complete account balance -previous and new
gets valid for the new defined time period.
|
Q. |
Is one-month validity different for different
months ? |
| |
One-month
validity is defined as 30 days and not as per calendar
months
|
Q. |
What
is the speed of the connection that I have? |
| |
The
speed of your connection is mentioned on your pre-paid
coupon. It can vary from 16-128 Kbps depending on the
pack you choose (Hour based, Data Transfer based or
Unlimited)
|
Q. |
How
can I see the amount of data transfer done to and from
the Internet? |
| |
To
check the amount of data transfer you would need to
log into your account and click on "My Account
Graph". You will be able to see how much data you
have transferred from and to the Internet for different
periods of time, like the last 12 hours/24 hours/Seven
Days and so on. It will also show you two graphs as
an illustration of how much data you have downloaded
from and uploaded to the Internet.
|
Q. |
What
is the difference between Bits and Bytes transferred? |
| |
1
Byte equals 8 Bits of data. Bytes is usually the unit
for transferring data from the Internet, eg. whenever
you download a file from the Internet, whether it is
an attachment to an e-mail or a song you are downloading,
it is usually in Kilo/Mega or Giga Bytes.
|
Q. |
How
much data is transferred while checking e-mails or browsing
the Internet ? |
| |
For
e- mail, it depends on how many mails you have, how
many of them you browse through & how many attachments
you download or upload. As far as browsing is concerned,
both upload and download of data packets to and from
the Internet happens. You send packets of data when
requesting for a certain web page to be viewed, and
receive packets of data in return in the form of the
actual web page that you view. Many web pages have flash
or other heavier software based messages on them that
means that more data is downloaded - many have high
quality images which again translates to higher number
of bytes transferred. You need to track your own usage
pattern to know how much data you are transferring to
and from the Internet, which is why you have access
to the web interface illustrating your data transfers
as explained above.
|
Q. |
What
is the difference between data upload and data download? |
| |
As
explained above Data upload in case of browsing is the
data sent as requests for viewing a certain web page
or starting a certain download. The Data download is
the web page or interface that opens or a program/ song
that runs. In case of e-mails you upload data when you
attach a file to the mail that you are sending or write
an e-mail, request for your e-mail page to be displayed,
whereas you down load data when your e-mail page opens
or you open an attachment on your e-mail etc. Since
data uploaded usually are only requests that you send
to the respective server on the Internet having the
information you want, it is far less than the data that
is actually downloaded.
|
Q. |
What
is meant by the transfer rate depicted on the download
status box while downloading data from the Internet? |
| |
The
transfer rate, depicted by Kilo Bytes transferred Per
Second is the rate at which the data is being transferred
to your computer from the server on the Internet. It
helps you get a better idea of the Internet traffic
that is "hitting" the server and the bandwidth
that you have been given access to on your Internet
connection. The transfer rate also depends on the number
of users that are drawing on the same bandwidth that
you have access to and also the number of downloads
sessions/windows that you have open on your PC. It helps
you is get an idea of how much time it will take for
the data to be downloaded to your PC. If the file that
you are downloading is 1024 Kilo Bytes (or 1 Mega Byte)
in size, and the average transfer that you are achieving
over your connection is 2 Kilo Bytes Per Second, then
it will take 512 seconds or about 8.5 minutes for you
to download the file.
